We are implementing an action research project which will identify student learning needs and incorporate these into an integrated learning unit in Languages, ICT and TAS. We will evaluate the effectiveness of this unit in improving educational performance and engagement of students.
The integration of languages, ICT and TAS has the potential to enhance student learning, achievement and motivation. These subjects have a natural connection and research into the impact of such interation would be beneficial for student learning outcomes at the College. Research into the effect of the use of innovative learning technologies in the delivery of the integrated unit would also provide clear evidence about the nature of the learner in the 21st century and how best to accommodate this at St Mary’s. Learners have evolved and as such our delivery of the curriculum needs to as well. The use of innovative educational technologies such as i-pods has the potential to enhance student learning and achievement through adapting the method of pedagogy at the College and evolving the standard classroom setting to one that better reflects the nature of the learner in the 21st century.
