In 2008, with support from the College Board of Directors, we launched a series of action learning projects across every subject area, led by the subject coordinators.
By situating teacher learning within projects related to the day to day business of the college, and with learning growing out of this research with our own students, we will see measurable growth for teachers and for students across the entire curriculum.
Each coordinator has been given a 4 period per fortnight allowance (roughly 10% of their full teaching load) for the purpose of conducting their projects. This equates to the cost of one full teacher across the timetable, or about one salary.
Most coordinators have elected to use the time to lead the research themselves, although there is the possibility that the time could be used to relieve other teachers who will engage with the research.
This model allows a sustained approach to improvement, whilst minimising the need to remove teachers from their classes for training.
This site will grow to house the research across every subject area in the College and will be shared with the world (eventually).
